WE ARE HUMANS

2021

We Are Humans

Modern physics tells us that time does not pass as common sense, time passes faster on the mountain than on the sea level( Rovelli, 2018 ). In the micro world, the past and the future have no difference. From the concept of time, looking back to its history, the desire of controlling time and space from human beings was existed thousands of years, and that the contradictions and conflicts in our society lie behind this desire to a strong sense of human identity(Singer, 1975).

We Are Humans is a video animation and VR work that aims to reveal anthropocentrism through the human desire for time. The work is set on a planet with a single tree, on which man lives and whose shadow he calls time. By shifting the perspective, the artist abstracts the human form into a molecular form, telling and observing the human world in the third person. In the modern world, humans seem to have become masters of nature. Humans seek equality, but humans treat no species other than humans equally because we are human. There is a strong sense of racial identity for humans at a deep level of our cognition. However, if "we are human" is used for species prejudice, there are valid reasons for sexism and racism(Singer, 1975). We see the world, describe it, and give it order. But we hardly know the relationship between the world we see and the world itself. In the time of trance, we only saw the absolute existence of ourselves, ignoring the relative others around us.
